Support Request: Login to PowerBI fails

Our kiosk system worked normally until about 23.1.2020 when it started to give to Azure AD logs this error message: "Sign-in error code 50058
Failure reason: The application tried to perform a silent sign in and the user could not be silently signed in. The application needs to start an interactive flow giving users an option to sign in. Contact app owner. "

This happens when a link to Power BI ( https://app.powerbi.com/groups/me/apps/..... ) is opened from the app that Provisio kiosk software is protecting. When the kiosk software is closed and I try to open it manually from the same app and the same user and the same machine the link opens just fine, so the Kiosk software is somehow stopping this.

From web we found that one suggested fix for a similar error message was whitelisting, so I added to Kiosk whitelist the following addresses: https://login.microsoftonline.com and https://*.powerbi.com but those didn't help.

We're using Chrome browser and Windows 10. The app containing powerbi-link hasn't changed in three months and the team managing our network says that nothing in their side has changed during January.

All ideas what else I could try are very much appreciated!

In general SiteKiosk 9.6 is no longer supported, but here are some general notes:

As also SiteKiosk doesn’t change its configuration during runtime the issue must be caused from somewhere outside of SiteKiosk.

Provided that this means that the link is opened in the SiteKiosk browser (if it happens in an external application, SiteKiosk has no influence on it) >>>
This happens when a link to Power BI ( https://app.powerbi.com/groups/me/apps/..... ) is opened from the app that Provisio kiosk software is protecting. <<< it is possible that the login process on the website has changed.

Especially if you have restricted the surfing area, you might check if one of the URLs involved is blocked.
You can check that in the SiteKiosk log (…\SiteKiosk\Logfiles) and then compare the blocking entries closely with the URLs you allowed.
When the URL will be blocked by your Surfing Area settings you will have entries like this in the log:

[SiteKiosk] Notification: According to the surf area rules the navigation to  XYZ was canceled.

Or the web page maybe requires another Chromium Version to be able to login?
The Chrome Browser Skin does use a Chromium CEF Engine installed with SiteKiosk
The SiteKiosk Version 9.6 uses Chromium CEF 59.0.3071.82 while the actual SiteKiosk version uses Chromium CEF 76.0.3809.132.
Therefore you may also check if it works when using the actual SiteKiosk version. You can test it without adding any license (e.g. on a separate test system).

NOTE:
The latest Windows update from February 2020 (KB4532693) includes a change which causes Autostart mode to stop working. The Windows SiteKiosk user account is unable to log in after this Windows update is applied.

SiteKiosk version 9.7.5320 fixes this problem.

Thanks for your quick reaction Michael! My reply took a bit longer but here we go. ^_^

That's possible but usually Microsoft informs quite well if they change something like that in their top product. Our Microsoft guy in IT hadn't heard of any that kind of change.

I think there shouldn't be any blocked sites but rather we just have whitelisted those few places that are allowed.
But checking the logs is a good tip. Will do that!

This was interesting info and a valid question! I assumed that SiteKiosk uses the browser installed to the PC but along with our old SiteKiosk version this would be good to check.

Updating SiteKiosk version would probably anyway be a good thing. I checked the order confirmation and it has the text: 'SiteKiosk Basic (incl. 1 year of
free support and updates)' so that free update is gone now. Hence:
1. Does that linked Win10-fix-patch work also to SiteKiosk 9.6 ? (couldn't find any version mentioned in that page)
2. If we want to upgrade to 9.7 is the cost according to 'SiteKiosk Windows - Annual Maintenance Renewal' / 40€ per each copy?

Hello,

The patch is designed to fix the Windows Update problem for older SiteKiosk versions and also works with SiteKiosk 9.6.
You can even run the patch (UserAccessPatcher.exe) before Windows updates are applied to prevent the temporary user profile from loading.

The license prices are always per copy. But note that the maintenance renewal option is only available when the SiteKiosk license is still valid or if you order new licenses (to extend the update and support time span).
However, you can order SiteKiosk Update licenses instead:

But also note that you can test everything before purchasing any license (e.g. on a separate computer).

I noticed the following text in license purchasing page:
'You can update from older versions (2.x/3.x/4.x/5.x/6.x/7.x/8.x) to the current version 9 by paying an update fee.'

Since we already have version 9 (i.e. 9.6) does this mean that the 9.7 is free for us?

Hello,

you can update to the latest version of SiteKiosk for free within one year after you have purchased your license. After that period you need to buy an update, no matter what previous version your are on.
