Support Request: Configuration tool just shows "this page cant be displayed"

Hello,

When attempting to start the "Configure SiteKiosk" software, it just opens a windows and displays:

This page can’t be displayed

•Make sure the web address http://localhost:8889 is correct.
•Look for the page with your search engine.
•Refresh the page in a few minutes.


"Computer Management -> Services" shows the "SiteKiosk Configuration Server" service as"Running".


netstat output includes
TCP 127.0.0.1:8889 SC35WKS306:0 LISTENING

We have tried uninstalling then reinstalling the software. It did work previously.

The main SiteKiosk software appears to be working. It shows verseion 8.8 build 1686 x64

Hello,

Generally there is no known issue. The configuration pages will delivered as local web pages on port 8889 (http://localhost:8889) by the SiteKiosk Configuration Server service.

- Which operating system do you use?
- Did you reboot the system after the installation?
- What other software products are installed on that system (e.g. any kind of Antivirus or additional Firewall / Security Tools)?
- Did you activate any compatibility view or proxy settings in Internet Explorer on that system?
- Is there any additional information at the Windows event log at the time you try to open the SiteKiosk configuration tool?

Hello

Thank you for your response - it was Internet Explorer's proxy settings which had been modified by another process which was causing the issue.

It is now working.

In fact, for me, it was SiteKiosk itself that updated Internet Explorer settings.
Under the Basic -> Maintenance -> Connection settings is an option to use a proxy. Customising that changes the IE settings. Unfortunately, it does not tick the box to bypass the proxy for local addresses. This meant that ConfigEditor could not connect to itself.

Thank you for your feedback.

Please note:
Generally SiteKiosk does not change any IE settings in your Windows user account.
But when you enable proxy settings in the SiteKiosk configuration SiteKiosk will set them on SiteKiosk Browser start and restores the previous IE proxy settings when closing the SiteKiosk Browser (within the user account you start SiteKiosk in).
