Hello,
Generally you need to edit the “Config.XML” of the File Manager (available with IE based skins, e.g. Metro IE) if you want to open a downloaded PDF via double click in Adobe Reader.
1. Choose “Metro IE” Skin at “Start Page & Browser” & activate Downloads and the File Manager in SiteKiosk (-->File Manager & Downloads).
2. To open the PDF file by double clicking it within the File Manager you have to edit the “config.xml” file at “…\SiteKiosk\Skins\Public\Media\FileManager\XML”
- Remove “pdf” from this line
<extension types="html,htm,pdf,swf,txt,xml,m3u,mov">
- Like this
<extension types="html,htm,swf,txt,xml,m3u,mov">
- Then add “pdf” to this line:
<extension types="doc,docx,xls,xlsx,ppt,pptx,pps,ppsx,rtf,sxw,odt,dot,dotx,ods,sxc,odp,sxi,ott,stw,otp,sti" useregistry="true" />
- Like this:
<extension types="doc,docx,xls,xlsx,ppt,pptx,pps,ppsx,rtf,sxw,odt,dot,dotx,ods,sxc,odp,sxi,ott,stw,otp,sti,pdf" useregistry="true" />
Alternatively you can edit the “config.xml” and specify an application you want to open the PDF with.
More information you will find in the SiteKiosk help
http://www.provisio.com/en-US//helpconsole/SiteKiosk%20Help/en-US/default.htm?file_manager.htm
-->Linking and executing file types using third-party applications.
NOTE:
- Add the Acrobat Reader application to the SiteKiosk configuration (-->Applications) to make sure that it will be closed on session end.
In this context, you should also check the file downloadmanager.xml at "...\SiteKiosk\XML" to make sure that the downloaded PDF opens automatically in Adobe Reader (is Default setting)
<extension name='pdf' download='2' open='1'/>
If you don’t want to display PDF files in the SiteKiosk Browser (with IE based skin) at all you need to deactivate the Adobe PDF Plug-in in IE
https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/display-pdf-in-browser.html
As this is a user dependent setting you also need to configure this within the SiteKiosk user account (when using the Auto Start mode the SiteKiosk Browser will be started within the SiteKiosk user account).

Thank you. I believe I've done all of the above and it still doesn't work. Please advise.

Hello,
In that case please review the changes you did in the “Config.xml” and “DownloadManager.xml” and first check in “Start once” mode.
Also make sure you installed the latest Adobe Reader version and that you did choose the “Metro IE” Skin at “Start Page & Browser” and activated the File Manager as well as allowed downloads at “Files and Downloads”.
If it still doesn’t work after that please describe step by step what is happening when you double click a PDF file in the File Manager after starting SiteKiosk in “Start once” mode.
Regards,
Michael Olbrich
P.S. The default settings with METRO IE skin will open PDF links in the Browser and downloaded files automatically in the configured default application (usually Adobe Reader as it is required for displaying PDFs in IE.
