FAQ: Install SiteKiosk for Terminal Services on Windows Server systems (Windows Server 2003 / Windows Server 2008) - is not supported anymore since SiteKiosk 8.91 / May 2015.

Usually SiteKiosk is designed to be installed on a Windows client system:

SiteKiosk on Windows Terminal Server is not supported anymore since SiteKiosk 8.91 / May 2015.

But since SiteKiosk 7.7 the SiteKiosk installer explicitly provides the option of installing SiteKiosk for use with terminal services (with some restrictions – see link at the end of this article).

1. To install SiteKiosk for multisession Terminal Server access you need to use either one of the following methods:
Windows Server 2008 R2: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc742815.aspx
Windows Server 2008: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc754746%28WS.10%29.aspx
Windows Server 2003: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc738580%28WS.10%29.aspx
!Installing SiteKiosk on Windows Server systems without using this method (for Terminal Services) is not supported!
Also make sure to enable the checkbox at "Install SiteKiosk for usage with Terminal Server" when installing SiteKiosk (available with "Custom Installation")

2. If you have enabled the strong password policy on your Windows system (usually enabled by default on Windows Server 2008) you need to start the SiteKiosk installer with some parameters through wizard (mentioned at 1) to set a strong password as the default password “provisio” doesn’t match the strong password policy.

SiteKiosk8.exe /V"DEFAULTPASSWD=12MyPasswd"

Further options you will find here: http://www.provisio.com/en-US/CustomerSupportCenter/ArticleDetails.aspx?ArticleID=476

3. As the SiteKiosk Browser is based on the Microsoft Internet Explorer Webbrowser Control you might need to check and change the Internet Explorer settings on your Windows Server system to provide access to the Internet.
(e.g. the “Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration” http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd883248%28v=ws.10%29.aspx)

4. To start the SiteKiosk Browser automatically within the (terminal server) user accounts you should use the methods given by the Terminal Services configuration for Windows Server.
Windows Server 2008 R2: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc770821.aspx
Windows Server 2008: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc770821%28WS.10%29.aspx
Windows Server 2003: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc736643%28WS.10%29.aspx
EXAMPLE: To start SiteKiosk with a given configuration you can e.g. use

"C:\Program Files\SiteKiosk\SiteKiosk.exe" "C:\Program Files\SiteKiosk\Config\Skconfig.skcfg"

There are some restrictions when using SiteKiosk with Terminal Services:
- English: http://www.provisio.com/en-US/CustomerSupportCenter/ArticleDetails.aspx?ArticleID=5352
- German: http://www.provisio.com/de-DE/CustomerSupportCenter/ArticleDetails.aspx?ArticleID=5367
The installation of SiteKiosk on a SiteRemote Server is not supported.

When uninstalling SiteKiosk on Windows Server 2008 R2 and higher you may receive an error that the dll deregistration of “SiteCam.dll” and “SiteCash.dll” have failed. This is a known issue but you can safely ignore these messages and SiteKiosk will be removed.
